McDermott praises rival coach; Ponies win playoff game

The Bills are gearing up for their Thursday night showdown against the Dolphins. During a press conference on Tuesday, Buffalo Head Coach Sean McDermott said Miami Head Coach Mike McDaniel is “one of the better coaches in the league.” McDermott added the Dolphins are “explosive” on offense. The game begins at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday.

The Syracuse football team has a tough test this weekend. The Orange will visit Clemson on Saturday at 12 p.m. During a press conference on Monday, Syracuse Head Coach Fran Brown said Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney is “one of the best coaches in college football.” Swinney has won two national championships.

Both Ithaca College soccer teams are on the road today. The women’s team visits Scranton at 4 p.m. and the men’s squad plays Cortland at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies beat Somerset 3-1 in Game 1 of their playoff series. Game 2 takes place on Thursday at 6:07 p.m. in Binghamton.

The Mets beat the Padres 8-3 on Tuesday. The Amazins’ slugged four home runs in the win. A rematch takes place tonight at 7:10 p.m. in Queens. David Peterson will pitch for New York.

The Yankees topped the Twins 10-9 on Tuesday. Ben Rice had a nice day at the plate; he had three hits. The teams play again tonight at 7:40 p.m. in Minnesota. On the hill for New York will be Luis Gil.

The Rangers have named a captain for the upcoming hockey season. J.T. Miller will lead the locker room. In a statement, Rangers President Chris Drury said the team is confident Miller will represent the organization with “class, commitment, and integrity.”
