Mini fridge recall expands due to fire hazard

ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A recall of a popular dorm room item is expanding.

Consumers are advised to stop using Curtis International Frigidaire mini fridges.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the internal electrical components in affected units can short-circuit and catch fire.  Following 634,000 that were pulled off store shelves in July 2024, around 330,000 additional units have been recalled.

Affected Unit Information

  • Expansion Model Number – EFMIS121
  • Previously Recalled Model Numbers – EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149. EFMIS175
  • Serial Number – Between A2001 – A2310
  • Colors – Red, Teal, Fire Engine Red, Black

The product was sold exclusively in Target stores and online at Target.com from January 2020 through October 2023. If you have an affected unit, you must register it here to initiate your refund. Consumers should unplug and cut the power cord, write “Recall” on the front door in permanent marker, and dispose of the product in accordance with local and state regulations.
