ULYSSES, NY (607NewsNow) – Taughannock Falls State Park’s First Day Hike was a success.

Despite the cold, park officials say over 1800 hikers and about 150 dogs showed up for walks at the popular spot on January 1.

All parking and entrance fees were waived at State Parks and other State-owned properties to encourage attendance.

The First Day program began in 2012 as an initiative to get people to start the new year with healthy outdoor activity.
