New electric car service being launched by TCAT

ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — TCAT is getting ready to roll out a new transit service. 

A pilot program called eRide Ithaca is part of the Ithaca Electric Transportation Access Project, which is backed by state funding. Affordable, on-demand electric cars and vans will serve three underserved Ithaca neighborhoods: West Hill, West End, and the Flats.

Two informational meetings are planned, with the first on Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The second is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Both meetings will take place in the Tompkins County Public Library’s BorgWarner Room.

“Fully qualified drivers, who will be hired by TCAT, will operate affordable door-to-door service using a fleet of electric sedans and ADA-accessible vans. Residents will be able to schedule rides via a soon-to-be unveiled mobile app or through the 2-1-1 call center (also with soon-to-be announced details.) meeting for representatives of community organizations is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon Tues., March 17, also in the library’s Borg Warner West room, to discuss partnership,” according to TCAT.

TCAT hopes to launch the pilot program this spring.
