New engineering building named for notable Cornell alum

ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – A new research and academic building at Cornell will be named after a notable alum.

After a significant financial gift, the building, which contains and expands upon the former Thurston Hall, will be named the Martin Y. and Margaret Lee Tang Hall. It’s the first new construction on the Pew Engineering Quad in 20 years.

Martin Tang, class of 1970, is the longest-serving international trustee, a Trustee Emeritus, and recipient of the Frank H.T. Rhodes Exemplary Alumni Service Award. He lives in Hong Kong, where he has “served for decades as one of the university’s most prolific ambassadors.”

The Welcome Center overlooking Beebe Lake is also named for the Tang family. Interim President Michael Kotlikoff tells the Cornell Chronicle the buildings are a fitting reflection of the breadth of the Tang’s impact at the university.
