NEWFIELD, NY (607NewsNow) – A Newfield man is accused of causing the death of a toddler.

On September 4, a Grand Jury indicted 31-year-old Justin Fenton on charges of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and tampering with physical evidence.

He was arrested on September 8.

On June 30, 2024, State Police were called to a residence on South Way in Newfield for a report of an unconscious 4-year-old who was not breathing. The child was taken to Cayuga Medical Center, where he later died.

An autopsy revealed the child died from fentanyl toxicity.

Troopers say Fenton’s “drug use at the time recklessly exposed the child to a lethal dose of fentanyl, causing his death.”

Fenton was taken to Tompkins County Jail.
