ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — An abandoned house in Ithaca caught fire over the weekend.

Damage was extensive after the blaze Saturday, which began around 5 a.m. on North Plain St. Flames were reported throughout the single-family home.

“Due to the heavy volume of fire, an aggressive exterior attack was performed, and the fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes. Although the house had previously been identified as abandoned, firefighters ensured that no one was inside,” IFD said.

“Off-duty IFD firefighters responded to the City and scene to help, and the Lansing Fire provided an engine crew to cover any additional calls. Ithaca Police, Ithaca Fire Police, the City of Ithaca Building Department, and NYSEG also responded to the scene,” officials added.

Assistant Fire Chief Jim Wheal says a cause of the fire has not been determined.
