SYRACUSE, NY (607NewsNow) — The Syracuse football team was spooked by the visitors on Friday night.

As the wind howled outside the JMA Wireless Dome, a blowout took shape inside the stadium. Syracuse’s halftime lead disappeared like a ghost as North Carolina ultimately won 27-10.

The Tar Heels were led by sophomore quarterback Gio Lopez, who threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Syracuse quarterback Joe Filardi waned in comparison — the freshman mustered just 39 passing yards.

Despite there being not much to cheer for, the home crowd was spirited in its appearance. Some fans celebrated Halloween in tiger costumes, others came as traffic cones. The small patch of Carolina fans dressed in baby blue, though, had the best time.

After the game, players for the Orange kept an optimistic outlook. Senior linebacker Anwar Sparrow said Syracuse never surrendered.

“My teammates didn’t give up, and I respect them for that,” he said. “We just got to go into the next game with a positive mindset.”

Syracuse next travels to the Sunshine State to face Miami on Saturday, Nov. 8.
