OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) — A K9 officer in Owego has died.

The Southern Tier Police Canine Association, Inc. says Sig specialized in sniffing out narcotics during his time with the Owego Police Department.

“Sig’s partner and handler Sgt McCulskey were certified with the deployment profiles as a narcotics detection, tracking, evidence detection and protection K9 team, he was always on a mission,” the association said.

“Sig was well known throughout the US at STPCA, NAPAWDA and NNDDA seminar certification trials as “The Black Dog,” where Sig excelled in narcotics detection,” they added.

Sig was 12 years old. He reportedly suffered a “heart incident” last week.
