HECTOR, NY (607NewsNow) – Schuyler County Emergency Services is hosting a public meeting in the Town of Hector.

On August 19, residents living on roads between State Route 414 and Seneca Lake are encouraged to attend a meeting to learn more about upcoming address changes.

Officials say the changes are part of the county’s transition to Next Generation 911 (NexGen 911) and are necessary to improve public safety, adding that residential growth has led to additional driveways, private lanes, and spur roads that were never intended to accommodate the number of homes that exist today.

In some areas, the original numbering system no longer provides enough available addresses. Other areas have several branches extending from a single road, yet all share the same road name, which can create confusion and waste valuable time during an emergency response.

The meeting takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hector Fire Department.
