ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – You can get rid of some of that holiday waste free of charge in Tompkins County.

Beginning today, all Christmas trees can be disposed of at the Tompkins County Recycling and Solid Waste Center (RSWC) in Ithaca.

No permit is required. All decorations, lights, and other objects must be removed before dropping off. Upon arriving at the RSWC, visit the scale house to get a holiday tree recycling ticket before proceeding to the yard waste drop-off area. The service only applies to real trees.

Trees can be dropped off during business hours through January 31, 2026.

The RSWC is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
