Refrigerator sold by Home Depot, Amazon recalled for fire hazard

ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A refrigerator sold on Amazon.com and in Home Depot stores is not safe, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Galanz Americas has recalled five models of its retro refrigerators due to faulty electrical components.

Officials say the units can short-circuit and catch fire. There have been 34 known reports of fires, including one that resulted in a death. Nearly 122,000 were sold between January 2019 and September 2022.

Consumers are advised to unplug the refrigerator and contact Galanz for a free in-home repair by a qualified technician.
