ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — The assassination of a conservative commentator is being strongly condemned.

31-year-old Charlie Kirk was shot dead Wednesday while speaking to students in Utah. Rep. John Mannion says there’s ‘no place for violence in our political discourse’ and called the shooting ‘reprehensible.’

Rep. Josh Riley described Kirk’s shooting as “sickening and heartbreaking” and adds “we must take the temperature down and reject political violence always and everywhere.”

Kirk’s creation of the grassroots organization Turning Point USA has a chapter at SUNY Cortland. CBS News reports the gunman remains at large.
