SPENCER, NY (607NewsNow) — There’s a new law in the Village of Spencer.

On Dec. 1, the Village of Spencer Board unanimously adopted a nighttime curfew for children under the age of 16. The law intends to minimize crime and vandalism.

The curfew begins at 11 p.m. on weeknights and 12 a.m. on weekends. The curfew ends at 6 a.m. each day.

Exceptions to the law include when the child is accompanied by their parent or guardian, and when the child is traveling in a direct route to their home from employment. In the latter scenario, a signed statement from the employer is necessary.

A warning will be issued to parents or guardians upon the first violation. Second violations will carry a fine of up to $50, and third violations will carry a fine of up to $150.
