FREEVILLE, NY (607NewsNow) – Everyone is safe after a short emergency at Freeville Elementary School.

On January 30, a fire alarm went off just after 11 a.m.

According to Dryden Central School District Superintendent Josh Bacigalupi, the alarm was triggered by steam escaping from an oven during lunch preparation. Staff and students sheltered in the church next door and returned to the school building at 11:30 a.m.

Bacigalupi praised Freeville Elementary Staff, the Facilities Department, and the Freeville Fire Department for their response to the incident.
