BARTON, NY (607NewsNow) – Three people are accused of abandoning cats in Tioga County.

On February 24, the Sheriff’s Office received a report that four kittens had been intentionally left on the side of Ellis Creek Road in the Town of Barton the night before.

Deputies responded and recovered three animals and another the following day. All four were taken to Spencer Animal Hospital for treatment and care. After an investigation, three people from Waverly were arrested.

Jessica Travis, 42, is charged with four counts of torturing or injuring animals/failure to provide sustenance, four counts of abandoning animals, and a single count of conspiracy. An 18 and 19-year-old, who were not named, were also charged in the alleged incident.

The 18-year-old male received charges identical to Travis, and the 19-year-old female was charged with conspiracy. The trio will appear in Barton Town Court at a later date.

All of the kittens were accounted for and provided new homes.
