OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) – Tioga County has agreed to settle out of court with Calvin Harris.

According to the Morning Times, the county’s liability insurance company issued an undisclosed amount to Harris last month.

The Owego man was charged with murder in the 2001 disappearance of his wife, Michele, and stood trial four times. They ended in a dismissal, a mistrial, an overturned conviction, and a not guilty verdict in 2016. Harris spent about 5 collective years in prison.

He says the county settled because of “overwhelming evidence” of wrongdoing by former District Attorney Gerald Keene. Additionally, this October, Harris will appear in United States District Court in Albany to decide if his civil rights were violated. If the court finds there was a violation, Harris could be awarded damages.

On September 11, State Police announced renewed search efforts in the 24-year-old cold case.
