ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Tompkins County’s finance director is leaving after more than a year on the job.

At Tuesday’s Legislature meeting, Darrel Tuttle announced his imminent departure from the county later this summer.

“As of [Monday] I have submitted my resignation to Chairperson Shawna Black,” Tuttle said. “I won’t go into the details; I’ll still be here for another Legislature meeting. My official last day will be Aug. 20th.”

Tuttle wants the transition to be as smooth as possible.

“I look forward to be working with the Legislature, my own department, and county administration to ensure a smooth transition,” Tuttle added.

Black responded, saying he’d be missed.

“We are going to cherish the next month that we have with you and pick your brain,” Black said.

Tuttle’s resignation comes as the county faces a 2027 budget year Black previously described as very challenging.
