ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Tompkins County is applying for a $15 million grant.

The funding would help build an 80-bed shelter on Cherry Street in Ithaca. The grant money would come from the New York State Homeless Housing and Assistance Program.

On April 21, the Tompkins County Legislature authorized County Administrator Korsah Akumfi to submit the application. Akumfi said the grant recipient should be announced by October.

County Legislator Randy Brown called the application a “big deal.”
