ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — New resources in Tompkins County are helping residents in need.

The county has developed a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) screening tool. The form can help New Yorkers across the state, though it’s intended for Tompkins County residents.

Another tool is the Tompkins County Opportunity Finder, which helps residents discover volunteer, training, and job opportunities that count toward SNAP requirements. The online hub also lets residents connect with local organizations to gain experience.

“Changes at the federal level will mean that more individuals must meet work-related requirements to continue receiving SNAP benefits,” Tompkins County Department of Social Services Commissioner Brittanie Earle said. “Our priority in Tompkins County is to ensure residents have clear information, accessible tools, and meaningful opportunities to stay eligible and thrive.”

Earle recently joined 607 This Morning to discuss changes in SNAP eligibility requirements. Listen to the full interview below.
