OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) – A murder trial is underway in Tioga County.

Jonathan Glennon, of Ithaca, faces charges of kidnapping and first and second-degree murder for the May 20, 2023, abduction and killing of Ithaca man Thomas Rath.

Rath was taken from a homeless encampment in Ithaca, tortured in Newfield, and his remains were discovered on August 3 on state land in Candor. WENY-TV reports the trial began on January 14 and is expected to last through early to mid-February.

Two others, Joseph Howell and Angelo Baez, were previously convicted and sentenced for their roles in the murder. Howell was ordered to serve at least 31 years in prison, and Baez received 25 years to life behind bars. The three men were among 13 people initially arrested in connection with the crime.

Glennon, who previously pleaded not guilty and refused a plea bargain, has had his trial delayed twice.
