DRYDEN, NY (607NewsNow) – Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fatal house fire in the Town of Dryden.

On July 3, members of the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office were called to a reported structure fire in the 300 block of Lake Road.

When deputies arrived, they joined Dryden firefighters and EMS personnel in locating the residents, one of whom was found deceased at the scene. A short time later, a second victim was discovered inside the home.

As of 7 a.m. on July 3, the sheriff’s office remains on scene with other agencies, including the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control. They ask the public to avoid the area while emergency personnel continue their investigation and operations.

Officials say information about the victims will be withheld until positive identifications are confirmed and next of kin have been notified.
