ULYSSES, NY (607NewsNow) — Lawmakers in Ulysses want a lower speed limit on Waterburg Road.

Town Supervisor Katelin Olson said many residents support the potential change.

“I talked to a number of folks on that road who had a lot of concerns about the speed,” she said.

The change would affect the stretch of road from Podunk Road to Indian Fort Road.

According to town documents, more than 25 residents have signed a petition that supports reducing the speed limit to 45 mph. The current limit is 55 mph.

On Oct. 14, the Ulysses Town Board passed a resolution to request a speed study. The request has been submitted to Tompkins County for further consideration.

The New York State Department of Transportation would have the final say on the change.
