CAMPBELL, NY (607NewsNow) – Union workers in Steuben County have agreed to a strike.

WENY-TV reports Teamsters Local 118 voted last week to authorize a strike at the BelGioioso plant in Campbell, 90-58.

Nobody has hit the picket line yet, and company management has already indicated a willingness to restart negotiations on a new contract. The current contract is set to expire on December 31. Union leaders say they don’t want a strike but are prepared to if it’s needed. Some employees have indicated they’ll cross the picket line if a strike goes forward.

Union leaders say they’ll set negotiation dates with management soon, calling mid-January a best-case scenario to reach a final agreement.

Last month, the Wisconsin-based cheesemaker announced a $23 million expansion to its New York operations, which will create at least 30 new, good-paying jobs in Campbell. BelGioioso purchased the Polly-O brand plant in Campbell in 2021.
