ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A small business in the Southern Tier is receiving one of the highest honors from the New York State Senate.

On June 18, State Senator Lea Webb presented Via’s Cookies with the NYS Empire Award.

Founder Olivia Carpenter launched during the pandemic to pay bills while attending Ithaca College. The business quickly grew as a result of placement in local cafes and markets, and the subsequent customer demand.

Senator Webb notes that Carpenter has structured the business to give back, donating a portion of her proceeds to support underrepresented students and communities.

“I am proud of Via’s Cookies for becoming such a cornerstone of the Southern Tier,” said Webb. “This business began as a way to navigate the financial struggles of attending college and has bloomed into a thriving business that gives back to those who need it most, really exemplifying the best of business in New York State.”

For Carpenter, the recognition of Via’s Cookies is a validation of her effort and intention.

“At Via’s Cookies, our motto is love, justice, and cookies for all because we began with the intention of pouring into and uplifting the community,” said Carpenter. “Seeing and knowing that we are achieving this feels amazing, and the recognition only solidifies that feeling. Thank you.”
