Village ice rink opens Saturday in Homer

HOMER, NY (607NewsNow) – Skating season is set arrive this weekend in Homer.

On December 20, you can lace ’em up at the George Vernum Park municipal courts behind the Homer Fire Department.

Village officials say they’ll dedicate the rink in a ceremony in honor of longtime firefighter Ralph Thornton, who spearheaded ice-skating rink operations for many years at the Village Green.

The event will be preceded by the Village’s holiday parade, which begins at 9 a.m. at the fire station.

The opening/dedication ceremony starts at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
