ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — A Tioga County business leader is green lighting a design, which will eventually be visible in Ithaca.
Upstate Shredding owner Adam Weitsman has commissioned the creation of a troll sculpture overlooking Carl Sagan’s former Ithaca house, which he bought in 2024. Weitsman says Danish artist Thomas Dambo’s giant trolls are located around the world, and his creation will be seen overlooking the Fall Creek gorge.

“Recycling has been my life, and art has always been one of my greatest passions, so Thomas’s work brings those two worlds together in a very natural way,” Weitsman said. “I’ve spent my career looking at materials that other people consider scrap and seeing what they can become. Thomas takes that same idea and expresses it through art, transforming reclaimed materials into something remarkable.”
Dambo’s work has been seen by an estimated 4.5 million people worldwide. He creates his sculptures from recycled and reclaimed materials, especially wood. Weistman feels that creates a good combination.
“There is something powerful about taking a material that has already served one purpose and giving it another life,” Weitsman said. “That happens every day in the recycling business, and Thomas has built an incredible body of work around that same idea. I could not think of a more fitting artist for this property.”
Meanwhile, renovation work at the Sagan House on Stewart Ave. will likely be completed this November.
