What to know about deficit, proposed staff cuts in Marathon school budget

MARATHON, NY (607NewsNow) — The Marathon Central School District is dealing with a deficit. 

Superintendent Jamie Coppola tells 607 News Now a $3 million shortfall is the result of a shortage in revenue and overspending during the 2024-25 school year. 

The district has proposed abut $2 million in cuts to staff and programs, Coppola added.

The proposed reductions are part of Marathon’s school budget vote on May 19.
