Here’s The Things You’ll Want To See Hear and Know Today

We’ve had a frost advisory today.  There could be one overnight tonight too!

The Big Picture

Thirteen people died and around a dozen more were injured in a shooting attack yesterday at the Washington Navy Yard, in Washington, D.C.  The main shooter was identified as 34-year-old Aaron Alexis, from Fort Worth, Texas.  He’s dead, but police were still looking for another suspect last night.  Here are some survivors talking about the attack.  (Read more here.  Alexis was shooting from a fourth-floor hallway down into a central cafeteria on the first floor.  He worked as a military contractor, but his family said he was doing computer work.)

After Nina Davuluri became the first Indian-American to win the Miss America crown on Sunday, all the racists came out to insult her on Twitter.  People were calling her “Miss 7-11,” and saying she was an Arab.  A lot of people tried to make it about 9/11 . . . even though Nina was born in Syracuse and has always lived in New York.  (Nina says she’s trying to stay above the hatred.  Here’s a report from USA Today.)

Showbizzy Newz

It’s official:  MILEY CYRUS and LIAM HEMSWORTH are finished.  Reps for both of them confirmed it yesterday.  We don’t know WHY they split, but there are rumors that Liam was cheating, and that he was fed up with Miley’s new image and attitude.

AMC is developing another “Walking Dead” show.  It’s set in the same zombie-apocalypse universe, but it’ll involve a new story and new characters.  There’s no title yet, and the show isn’t expected to debut until 2015.

TIM MCGRAW has been cast in a sci-fi mystery movie from Disney called “Tomorrowland”.  It stars GEORGE CLOONEY and it starts filming next week.  Look for it to be in theaters late NEXT year.

Q Country Closeup

The other night Carrie Underwood brought a little girl onstage to do a duet with her on “See You Again”.  Not just any girl . . . the girl who was in the “See You Again” video with Carrie.  (Her name is Brooklyn.  Watch her in the video here.)

The Backside of the News

A homeless guy in Boston named Glen James was walking around a parking lot on Saturday when he came across a backpack in front of a TJ Maxx store.  And when he opened it up, he found a passport, $2,400 in CASH and $40,000 in traveler’s checks.  He saw a police car, flagged them down, and TURNED IT IN without taking a dime.  About an hour later, the rightful owner called in, and the cops identified him by using the passport in the bag.  It’s not clear if Glen’s getting a reward.  But after the story broke yesterday, someone set up a fundraising page on GoFundMe.com for Glen.  And the goal is to raise $50,000 for him.  Here’s Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis talking about what Glen did.
