Scouts, Star Wars and Big Gas…Friday Morning Brief

Here’s The Things You’ll Want To See Hear and Know Today.

The Big Picture

Yesterday, in Washington, President Obama gave a speech about national security and the use of drones.  During his speech, he was repeatedly interrupted by a female heckler who was protesting Guantanamo.  He actually had to stop his speech three times because the woman wouldn’t be quiet, and then he went “off script” to respond to what she had to say.  Apparently, the woman was from the anti-war group Code Pink.  Here’s the woman interrupting Obama.

Back in August of last year, a woman in Josephine County, Oregon, who chooses to remain unidentified, was raped and attacked by her ex-boyfriend after she called 911 for help.  The police station didn’t have enough officers, and they couldn’t send one to help her.  She called when her ex was trying to get into her house, and told the dispatcher that he’d attacked her before, and had just gotten out of prison.  The call is making big news now because the city just defeated a ballot that could have prevented something like this from happening.

Showbizzy Newz

Morgan Freeman fell asleep in a TV interview on Wednesday, while he was supposed to be talking about his new movie “Now You See Me”.  His co-star Michael Caine was answering a question, and Morgan just dropped off.  He slept so long they had to cut away to some footage from the movie.  And when they came back, he was STILL asleep.

It came out this week that the owner of Amy’s Baking Company might be getting DEPORTED.  He’s that psycho who kicked customers out of his restaurant and stole servers’ tips on “Kitchen Nightmares”.  His name is Samy Bouzaglo, and he’s an Israeli citizen.  The issue is that he served time overseas and didn’t report it on his application for U.S. residency.  A reporter asked him about it the other day, and Samy gave him the classic Amy’s Baking Company treatment.  (This part hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the TV station that broke the story is saying he has a record overseas for drug distribution and extortion, and he’s already been banned from France and Germany.)

During a charity auction last night at the Cannes Film Festival, someone paid $1.5 million for the privilege of traveling into SPACE with LEONARDO DICAPRIO.

They’ll be passengers on one of those Virgin Galactic flights.  One seat normally costs $200,000, and there’s already a waiting list.  The first flight is expected to launch around Christmas.\There’s no word who won the seat.  Another pair of tickets later went for $2.3 million.

Florida Georgia Line just set a new Billboard record with their number one hit “Cruise”.  It’s been at the top for a total of 12 weeks, which means it’s the longest-running number one for a duo in the history of the Billboard country chart.  (Here’s the remix of “Cruise” featuring Nelly.  The remix helped the song break the record.  The original was only on top for three weeks back in December, but it went back to number one when the remix came out.)

Little BigTown is about to host “CMA Music Festival” on ABC this summer.  They just put up a video message about it online.

Oklahoma’s Secretary of Agriculture asked MIRANDA LAMBERT if her charity MuttNation would help care for animals injured in Monday’s tornado.  Obviously, she was all over that.  MuttNation is part of a team sending rescue units to the area.  She said, quote, “I’m so proud that we can help even a little.”

The Backside of the News

In North Carolina, a 37-year-old woman just had her son ARRESTED for eating her Pop-Tarts.  On Monday, she called the cops because he ate her Pop-Tarts without asking.  He was arrested for one misdemeanor count of larceny, which will be handled in juvenile court.

Kmart has a new ad, to go with their “Ship My Pants” viral video from last month.  This one’s called “Big Gas Savings”.  (They’re offering discounts on gas for every purchase of more than $50 at Kmart.  It sounds like they came up with the discount, just so they could make people say, “Big gas savings.”  CAREFUL: it sounds like these people are saying “big-ass savings.”)

If you’ve forgotten the name, Charles Ramsey is the guy in Cleveland who rescued those three female kidnapping victims from the house where they were being held . . . then he gave an interview that went VIRAL.  During the interview, he talked about how he stopped eating his McDonald’s food when he heard the women screaming.  The next day, McDonald’s tweeted that they’d, quote, “be in touch” with Charles.  Now, McDonald’s is giving him free food for a year.
