Here’s The Things You’ll Want To See, Hear and Know Today.
The Big Picture
The aftermath of the Oklahoma tornado. Stories of tragedy and bravery.
The tornado also hit Briarwood Elementary School, and ripped the building apart. But no one died there, even though both students and adults were trapped under the rubble. Tammy Glasgow is a second-grade teacher at the school, and she talked about how she kept her students safe in two bathrooms and a closet. (She herded eight boys into a boys’ bathroom, and twelve girls into a girls’ bathroom. Just before she shut the doors, she told each group that she loved them. She says the boys just looked at her funny, but the girls all told her they loved her. And while the storm was passing, she could hear the kids singing the national anthem.)
94-year-old Nancy Davis lost her house in the tornado on Monday. But it wasn’t the first time. She also lost her previous house to the tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma in 1999. Back then she rebuilt on the same spot, and on Monday she got hit again. One study put the odds of losing two houses to tornadoes measuring EF4 or larger, at one in 100 TRILLION, with a “T.”
Showbizzy Newz
Steven Spielberg and Microsoft just announced plans to develop a live-action “Halo” series. Sounds pretty amazing. (But it’s only for XBox Live. You won’t get to see it on TV. Spielberg says he’s been a fan of video games ever since “Pong”. And now they’ve gotten to the point where the stories can be even more compelling than the stories in feature films.)
“Dancing With the Stars” crowned its new winner last night. Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough took home the mirror ball trophy this time. (Zendaya Coleman and Val Chmerkovskiy came in second. Zendaya said she would leave happy, because she had an amazing experience. Kellie just said, “Oh mah GAH!” twice in a row.) (From “Dancing With the Stars” on Tuesday, May 21, 2013)

Jake Owen split his pants in concert the other night. Funny tweet: “Charleston will never be forgotten. My jeans ripped on stage tonight. Going commando = bad idea. Although, great breeze here. Coastal town.”

Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert paid tribute to the victims of the tornado in Oklahoma with her song “Over You.” Here’s their performance.

The Backside of the News
19-year-old Sam Greenwood, who provoked cops on Facebook, posting a dare, “Catch me if u can” … and they did. After British police posted the fugitive’s mugshot on its Facebook page, Greenwood wrote from his personal account: “Catch me if u can.” After they were able to track Greenwood down they noticed the photo and Greenwood’s comment had gathered 82 Facebook “Likes” and additional comments encouraging him. Once they’d arrested him, police replied on the department’s official page: “Caught you. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200, go straight to jail.”

On Monday, a girl in England hit a guy on a bike. He wasn’t hurt badly, but she sped off . . . then BRAGGED about it on Twitter. Quote, “I have the right of way . . . bloody cyclists.” She clearly didn’t realize the police ALSO have Twitter. They found the tweet and messaged her, but there’s no word whether she’s been arrested yet.
Yesterday morning, TONS of people were late to work in New York after a ROGUE GOAT got loose . . . and the cops got into a HIGH SPEED CHASE with him for TWO HOURS. The goat was running on the Pulaski Skyway in New Jersey, which people use to get to the Holland Tunnel into New York City. The cops say he broke free from a truck headed to a slaughterhouse, but now he’s at a rescue farm.

You know when you’re looking at pictures and they start to move? Do you call it a GIF or a JIF?
Steve Wilhite is the inventor of the GIF, and he finally put to rest how it’s supposed to be pronounced. It’s a soft ‘G’, and sounds like “jif,” like Jiffy peanut butter.
You’re welcome.
